Dr. Marie Equi, my values, and how I structure my pricing:

One of my personal heroes, pictured here, is Dr. Marie Equi. She was the first publicly-known lesbian on the west coast of the United States, and one of the first women on the west coast to become a doctor. She once horsewhipped a man in The Dalles, Oregon, because he refused to pay her female companion what he owed her. She was a Radical Socialist and an anarchist who organized and protested on behalf of workers, women, and the poor, and she eventually spent time in San Quentin prison, accused of “sedition” for protesting against World War I.

Marie Equi made her living as a physician here in Portland, Oregon (where I live), but gave free medical care to poor and working class people, and that’s why she’s relevant on my pricing page, where I’m talking about my values.

I coach people all over the world, people of every possible income level. Many have religious trauma, some do not. Many are Relationship Anarchists, some are not. The majority are gender non-conforming, most (not all) are queer, many have disabilities, most are neuroqueer in some way. This is how I like it. These people are like me. My goal will always be to help as many people as possible, so I keep as many sliding-scale appointments available as I can. If your income is low, and/or if you live in a country that has a difficult exchange rate against the US Dollar, please contact me and I will do everything I reasonably can to come up with a price that works for you. I currently have a few sliding-scale appointments available at $45 per 75-minute session.

You can learn lots more about Marie Equi on Wikipedia, in the Oregon Public Broadcasting special, “Oregon Experience: Marie Equi”, in this radio episode of “Think out Loud” called “Marie Equi: The Lesbian Anarchist Doctor You Never Heard Of”, and in the wonderful book, “Marie Equi, Radical Politics and Outlaw Passions” by Michael Helquist.

I’m wishing you well on your journey! — Mary Clark, Religious Trauma Coach and Relationship Anarchist
